About UsCenter Stage Kids nurtures the artistic soul in young performers.
We teach the art and craft of musical theatre to encourage self-confidence, develop discipline and discover creativity in each student. Each class, rehearsal, and production is an opportunity to celebrate skill and delight in their growth as young artists. |
Our teachers are highly skilled and experienced in the performing arts, each with different and varied talents, making Center Stage Kids a lively, living, and life-giving place.
The Beginning |
Long been a dream of Modesto native, singing talent and voice teacher Dawn Peterson, CSK was launched in 2006 as the area's first children's musical theater studio: teaching children the acting, dancing and singing that goes into a Broadway-like production. Dawn did not do this alone. After having coffee, Dawn was sitting with one of her many protege's, Amy Underwood (now DeMoura) in Dawn's car. CSK became conversation and then a plan and then a business.

Our History |
CSK has seen growth in numbers of staff and students. CSK has 7 regular, part-time, contracted staff members and many volunteer staff (especially for the shows that are produced). The students are organized into classes based on ages ranging from 5 to 18. Many of the students are going or have gone on to study musical theater in college.

New Owners |
In 2014, Center Stage Kids saw a transition...the founder and owner, Dawn Peterson, moved out of Modesto. Amy DeMoura and long-time CSK choreographer, Heather Vargas have stepped in to keep the Center Stage Kids philosophy and unique learning opportunities available to the community.

New Space |
In 2017, Center Stage Kids moved to a new location in Modesto. The space is larger, with rehearsal space, storage, a separate lobby and 7 sound-proof rooms.
